Successive interference cancellation in a low-earth orbit satellite system
نویسندگان
چکیده
Successive interference cancellation is a promising technique for increasing the capacity of uplink CDMA channels. In this paper, the technique is extended to a low-earth orbit satellite channel. Unlike terrestrial cellular channels, satellite channels typically have a limited multipath profile, but significant closed-loop power control error due to the round-trip delay incurred in communicating with an orbiting satellite. In this paper, a recently developed power control algorithm with considerable robustness to channel estimation and power control error is applied to an architecture capable of multiple-access interference cancellation and multipath combining. Even in the presence of large channel estimation and power control error, it will be shown that performance is increased significantly over previous research on interference cancellation for multipath fading channels, provided that the number of multipath components is small, as is the case for satellite communication systems. In addition, the proposed scheme has a low complexity relative to competing interference cancellation schemes. Copyright # 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

New Antenna Array Architectures for Satellite Communications
Ground stations which integrate the control segment of a satellite mission have as a common feature, the use of large reflector antennas for space communication. Apart from many advantages, large dishes pose a number of impairments regarding their mechanical complexity, low flexibility, and high operation and maintenance costs. hus, reflector antennas are expensive and require the installation ...
متن کاملEffects of Some Parameters on Thermal Control of a LEO Satellite
Satellite thermal control ensures safe operating temperature ranges for satellite components throughout the mission life. Effects of altitude, spin, and position of satellite radiator(s) on the thermal control of a small Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite have been studied. Results show that change in satellite altitude, in the range considered here, does not produce critical thermal conditions. H...
متن کاملChannel Estimation And Multiuser Detection In Asynchronous Satellite Communications
In this paper, we propose a new method of channel estimation for asynchronous additive white Gaussian noise channels in satellite communications. This method is based on signals correlation and multiuser interference cancellation which adopts a successive structure. Propagation delays and signals amplitudes are jointly estimated in order to be used for data detection at the receiver. As, a mult...
متن کاملPerformance of Multi-Carrier CDMA with Iterative Detection for a Doppler Shift Channel in a LEO Mobile-Satellite Communications Environment
In this paper we consider a matrix algebraic approach to derive the coded Multi-Carrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) system model for a Doppler shift channel. We derive the eeects of Doppler shift in a MC-CDMA system for low earth orbit (LEO) mobile-satellite communications and show the similarity of a MC-CDMA channel model under Doppler shift with that of the asynchronous DS-CDMA channel model. We therefore...
متن کاملModelling of Interference Caused by Uplink Signal for Low Earth Orbiting Satellite Ground Stations
Microsatellites in Low Earth Orbits (LEO) have been in use for the past two decades. Low Earth Orbit satellites are used for public communication and also for scientific purposes. Thus, it may be expected that such missions will be further developed in the near future especially in fields where similar experiments by purely Earth-based means are impracticable. Ground stations have to be establi...
